Digital photography as a learning tool

A great way to save memories of summer trips is to let each of your children have a small, inexpensive digital camera. Learning to use a digital camera is fun, and children always love taking pictures. This can be folded into whatever computer technology lessons you have for your children, allowing them to learn how to edit digital photographs, create movies from still shots, and even create artsy pictures using your photo editor.

Photographs can be used for visual journaling of what they've done during the summer. They can also be used for personalized greeting cards or scrapbooking projects.

As your children take pictures of the places you go, have them also keep a small journal indicating the date, the weather, the people involved, the location, and their personal thoughts about the trip or adventure. This way, you will incorporate some bits of science and language arts into a really fun activity.

Use resources from about.com for scrapbook pages that you can download and print for free. They're cute and will save you some money on scrapbook papers. Bring out a supply of embellishments that are really just found objects around your house so the kids can have a real scrapbooking session.
