GPS or maps
I've seen a lot of new folks moving down south lately. I notice a lot of out-of-state tags on cars. When we homeschooled and were traveling, I'd have the kids play a game of Bingo where they would mark off a spot on a Bingo card corresponding to the different state license plates they spotted. It was a lot of fun for them plus they could look on a US map and find out where the car was from and calculate how far the people had traveled to get to there,
Learning map reading and knowing by heart the locations of states and cities was important to us, probably because Husband and I were both truck drivers. While we hadn't worked for any of the moving companies New York has, we had both certainly driven there and in most of the other states. So we had a good idea how to get around the country without using maps for every single trip. We wanted our kids to become as comfortable with traveling as we were.
I've told Son that I have GPS in my brain...lol.
