Halloween tips

Today is a pretty controversial holiday here in the US. Some believe it's just all for fun. Others believe it's absolutely evil. Whatever you believe, it is Halloween.

There will be plenty who do go trick or treating tonight. I'm sure everyone will plan to be careful, but if this happens to be a new activity for you, here are some tips.

  • Wear reflective clothing or put reflective tape on clothes or costumes so you will be more visible to people driving cars.
  • Use makeup instead of a mask so you (or your child) can see clearly and avoid hazards.
  • Only visit well lighted places of business or homes of people you know.
  • Never accept unwrapped candy, cookies, fruit, or other treats. They could contain poisons or sharp objects.
  • Examine all candy carefully for signs of tampering.
  • Use routes that are well traveled and well lit.
  • Keep costume lengths short enough that they aren't a tripping hazard.

If you accumulate a lot of candy, and have found it to be safe to eat, you might want to put some of it away for treats later. Better to space it out in small increments than to need weight loss pills by the time Christmas rolls around!
