Toys for learning

Kids of all ages play with toys. Those toys can actually be educational and not be boring, you know. The main thing is to choose toys selectively so that while the child is playing, he is also learning. Connecting fun with education often helps a child to retain lessons learned. Also, many children are kinesthetic learners, which means they need hands-on activities to help reinforce their lessons and give them something tangible to apply the lessons to.

My younger daughter is very much a kinesthetic learner. When I was teaching fractions, she learned more by using measuring cups and spoons, and helping me cook, than by just having a worksheet of fractions. She just didn't understand the concept until she got her hands on things that demonstrated it for her. If you have a child like this, don't give up. You're homeschooling, so create a work-around to assist your child in managing and understanding these kinds of concepts.
