Climate change
One thing that's at the front of the news lately is climate change. Some have blamed this summer's excessive heat and drought conditions on what used to be called global warming. The thing is, global warming does just the opposite. It melts the polar ice caps, cools the oceans, and sets in motion storms and cold weather in locations where it had previously been temperate.
Still, it's a lot to think about when the weather patterns seem to be going haywire. You can download and print a free 2-week unit for grades 6 to 8 that teaches Climate Change. This covers not only the weather aspect, but also the social and economic aspects of this planet-threatening issue.
